Cameron works his magic...

Since I have posted last I completed the recording of the guitar and the majority of the lead vocal for "All the Everything". Tyler and I have been experimenting with percussion and layering ideas for the song.

Yesterday Cameron came over to track his piano part and he nailed it. He came over during his lunch break and knocked it out in about an hour! We also went over some production ideas for the song that are still on the table. I was able to take some video while Cameron was working on his part and recording it. Great work Cam, enjoy.

The Building Process

One of my favorite parts of the recording process is the building of a song. When I write a new song on my guitar I can hear all the parts in my head. I hear the drums, bass, vocals, strings and so on.

Once I've decided on the arrangement of the song and the pre production is done it's time to record. I usually track the guitars first and then later will put everything else over the top of it. I figure if I wrote the song on the guitar it might as well go down first, kind of like a road map for the rest of the recording session.

Here's a clip of me recording the main guitar track for "All the Everything". I'm using a GT55 vocal mic on the body of the guitar and a AKG C1000S on the neck. It gives the guitar a full and rich sound when you combine the microphones like this.

Enjoy, Luke

And away we go....

Today is day 1 in the studio working on my EP. As of now I have a basic idea of how the record is going to sound. I recently went back to some of my old tracks from my Second Gravity days (2003-2005) and they just didn't feel the same to me. As a songwriter and singer I hold strong the belief that you have to feel what you are singing and make sure it's not forced...

Having said that I started writing new material. On board with me for the last 6 months or so is my long time friend and SG drummer Tyler Hobbs. His contributions to the music and project is priceless

Just last Monday night October the 11th we were joined by former SG keys player Cameron Palmer. Cameron is also a longtime friend and maybe the most talented musician I know. The 3 of us set up a few mics here in the studio and started pre production on our first single called "All the Everything". After just a few hours we had recorded a live version of the song which we will post here soon!

Today I'm going to start the ground work on the studio version of that song. Thanks for checking in on the project, this new blog is going to be used to document the creation of the EP with videos, in studio interviews, pictures, and much more.

Until next time,

-Luke
